#NDAAFW in Central Florida – National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week Orlando
March 18-March 22, 2024 is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week! This week gives us an opportunity to increase awareness by educating ourselves and those around us about the impact of drug and alcohol use in our lives. Substance abuse can have serious consequences for our physical, emotional and psychological well-being. It can lead to risky behaviors, increased anxiety and depression, and of course potential overdose. In recognition of #NDAFW2024, we want to share some current statistics to remind us of the crisis at hand and help others know they are not alone.
- Half of people aged 12 and older have used illicit drugs at least once;
- 10 million Americans, ages 12 and over, will misuse opioids at least once over a 12-month period;
- There have been more than 700,000 drug overdose related deaths in America since 2020;
- 20% of the 140 million alcohol-users in our country have an alcohol-use disorder; and
- Less than 8% of those with alcohol-use disorders receive treatment.
As you reflect on these statistics we hope you will consider the seriousness of the crisis occurring all around us. If as you read this, concern for yourself or someone you care about came to mind, please don’t brush it aside. Check in on your loved ones and those around you, and check in on yourself and your own relationship with substances. Be ready to give or receive help when needed. Those of you who are located in Central Florida can keep our 24/7 hotline saved in your phone: (407) 875-3700. Our detox program is available to the community, and it is an affordable option even for those without insurance.
Please feel free to share this message and these #NDAFW statistics with others! You never know when you might help create an opportunity for someone to find healing and recovery.
