Improving Society the MLK Way

As we continue into 2022, I want to begin by sharing a quote from the great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?”

MLK was a big believer in equality of opportunity, and that we become equal when we treat each other as equals. He talked about changing our society but most often spoke passionately to individuals and encouraged each of us to be the change we want to see. Rev. King’s words are just as pertinent today, if not more, than they were 4 decades ago.

Reflecting on Dr. King’s profound messages, we see a challenge to all of us this week: Improve society by improving yourself. You and your actions can be the change — Change the world by changing yourself, create a community of equality by being a person of grace, compassion, and justice. Be the change you want to see.

Today, we have the opportunity to honor him by not asking what other people in our lives can do to bring transformation, but what each one of us can do. At Aspire, we’re encouraging our teams and our friends to take action this year, starting this month, by renewing our commitment to volunteering for worthy causes and companies leading compassionate and caring work. In fact, I have given every variable and full-time Aspire team member 8 hours of pay for a Diversity Day to be the difference in the community. For our community, Aspire also has many opportunities that you can assist in being the difference.

The dream of MLK Day is a call-to-action for each individual to create change… One person at a time.
