Program Description:
Aspire's HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS) provides assistance to individuals who have been diagnosed with HIV and/or AIDS and who are experiencing the threat of homelessness or who are currently homeless. The program provides short-term rental, mortgage, and/or utility assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families who qualify based on HIV-related emergencies. Facility-based housing for those with specialized substance abuse and/or mental health treatment needs is available.
Eligibility for HOPWA programs is determined through an intake process with Housing Case Managers. Support available includes Housing Case Management; Tenant-Based Rental Assistance; Short-term Rent, Mortgage, and Utilities Assistance; Transitional Housing; Permanent Housing Placement; and Short-Term Housing/Temporary Shelter in the form of hotel stays for up to 60 days. Additionally, HOPWA case managers will assist individuals in applying for any benefits they may be eligible. While HOPWA staff do not directly provide counseling, they are able to assist individuals in accessing additional services such as mental health and substance abuse assessment and counseling within Aspire's continuum.
To be eligible for the HOPWA program, individuals must be 18 or older, diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, and either currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
