Program Description:
The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a secure, short-term, in-patient psychiatric unit for adults needing emergency mental health treatment. The CSU provides a safe environment for the purpose of stabilizing clients during a period of crisis. Psychiatric Treatment: Our psychiatrists assist in the recovery of our clients by providing the highest quality medical treatment. Within 24 hours they will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all patients and prescribe appropriate medications when indicated. Our psychiatrists will then monitor the effectiveness of any medications he or she prescribes and assist in preparing a transition plan for continued treatment upon discharge from the unit.

Discharge Planning: The discharge planning process is one of the post important activities conducted by our treatment team. Our goals is for our clients to maintain their stability within the community when they leave our unit. We accomplish this by working together to develop a safe and successful transition plan from time of admission to crisis unit to post-discharge. Effective discharge planning recognizes the importance of engaging the client other agencies, service providers, family members and friends.

Individual Therapy: Individual Therapy sessions give us a chance to interact with our clients on one-on-one basis. Our clinicians use this time to focus on problems and concerns specific to each person and then to help determine the proper course of therapy to make treatment on the Crisis Stabilization Unit as individualized and effective as possible.

Psycho-educational Group: Psychoeducational groups are a specific type of group therapy that focuses on educating clients about their disorders and ways of coping. The education will focus on coping with environmental stressors and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through treatment participation. Clients in group therapy often report a sense of "belonging" and gain encouragement from other participants. Additionally, clients in group therapy are often able to provide support and direction for others struggling with issues they have faced in the past.

Psychosocial Assessment: When a patient is first admitted to our Crisis Unit, a psychosocial assessment is completed. A psychosocial assessment is an evaluation of a person's mental, physical, and emotional health. Usually it takes the form of a series of questions asked by a clinician. The psychosocial assessment is used to create the client's Treatment Plan and measure the progress of the treatment.
